Question. Rehearse the sixth Commandment?
Answer. Thou shalt not kill.
Scripture Reference: Ex. 20:13; Deut. 5:17

Question. Shall we fully fulfill this law if we keep our hands clean from slaughter and blood?
Answer. All things leading toward bloodshed are also forbidden, such as mocking, reproaches, quarrels, fighting, and the like.
Scripture References: Matt. 5:21-24, 19:18; James 2:11; Rom. 3:13-15; Gal. 5:20-21; James 3:14, 16

Question. What more?
Answer. God made this Law not only for our outward works, but also, and chiefly, for the affections of the heart. For anger, hatred, and every desire to kill, to take revenge, or to hurt, is before God judged as manslaughter. Therefore, these also God by His Law forbids us.
Scripture Reference: Matt. 5:22; Gal. 5:20-21; 1 John 2:9-11

Question. Shall we then fully satisfy the law, if we hate no man?
Answer. God, in condemning hatred, requires love toward all men, even our enemies—so far as to wish health, safety, and all good things for them that wish us evil and bear us a hateful and cruel mind; and, as much as lies in us, to do them good and to pray for them.
