Question. What kind of priest is Christ?
Answer. He is the greatest and everlasting priest, who alone is able to appear before God, alone able to offer the sacrifice that God will accept, and alone able to satisfy the wrath of God.

Question. To what benefit of ours does He do this?
Answer: For us he asks and prays for peace and pardon from God; for us he appeases the wrath of God; and he reconciles us to his Father. For Christ alone is our mediator, by whom we are made one with God. Yes, he makes us, as it were, fellow priests with him in his priesthood, giving us also an entrance to his Father, so that we may with assurance come into his presence and be bold through him to offer ourselves and all that we have to God the Father in sacrifice.

Question. What manner of Prophet is Christ?
Answer. Whereas men despised all other prophets and teachers, the servants of God, Christ himself—the Son of God and Lord of all prophets—came down from heaven as his Father’s ambassador and messenger to men, fully to declare his Father’s will and to instruct men in the right knowledge of God and of all truth. And so in the name of Christ are contained those three offices which the Son of God received from his Father and fulfilled, to make us partakers with him of all the fruit of them. For the Son of God is not only called, and is indeed, Jesus Christ—that is, the Saviour, King, Priest, and Prophet—but he is also so for us, and for our benefit and salvation.
